Lago Martianez, superb sea water pool complex in Puerto de la Cruz
Lago Martianez is a large sea water pool complex which is the natural centerpiece in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz on the north of the island.
The winds and sea in the resort are more suitable for surfers than sunseekers, so the town needed a place where tourists and inhabitants could soak up the sun while being protected from the elements.
The Lido Martianez, or Lago Martianez which it is also often referred to as, was opened in 1977. It is designed by Lanzarote architect Cesar Manriques.
The entry fee is €3,50 for adults. Sun beds are €1,20 according to the signs, but when we visited in November 2011 they were not walking around and collecting any money for the use of the sunbeds.
The complex lost €640 000 in the fiscal year of 2010, and this concerns the local authorities.
The food in the restaurants in the complex is simple and of very average quality. Dorada beer from frozen glasses is a plus though.
